One of my FAVORITE restaurants in the city! The Catfish A-Bear is awesome!
Food always delicious. Very homey atmosphere.
Awesome food and add miss phire
Friendly Cajun home cooking and live music every Friday night with open mic.
Great food!
If you ever find yourself in Houma, LA you have to go to A-Bear's. This is the oldest restaurant in Houma and has won best gumbo many times. Try to go on a Friday night when they have live music and all you can eat catfish. This will be a regular spot for us on Fridays. The food is great and the atmosphere is true Bayou country. We didn't have room for dessert, but they are all homemade in house. I saw a slice of lemon meringue pie that was 4" tall.
MoreOne of the most unique places I've been to. If you get a chance take some time and speak with "The Mayor". Had a blast and the food was great!
MoreHome grown, and home made dishes. If you like Cajun food, they are hard to beat
We visited and service was slow. We missed the lunch crowd, and the poor guy serving us made every attempt in the world to color with our little two. At first it was okay, but not trying to be rude how do you ask him to quit? My three year old was crawling under her seat and as close to my husband as possible. The atmosphere is cute though. They had run out of the one lunch special they offered at 12:40. As far as the food, the fish isn't paper thin like some other local establishments, but not cleaned well enough. The shrimp and oysters were great. The kids meal isn't more than just a grilled cheese, so I guess it needs to say or be asked if you want fries. All and all, it was close to the hotel, but for a family of four at lunch it was $51.00 with two kids grilled cheeses, four drinks, a fish platter, and a combo plate. I am pretty sure we were overcharged, but left it well alone. We just will wait to visit 1921 or Boudreau & Thibodeau's or any place else before coming back .
MoreGood south Louisiana cuisine with friendly down home service. The white beans and rice are excellent as well as spectacular shrimp and okra gumbo. If you are in the mood for a sandwich they can take care of that too! Just make sure to save room for dessert, the hard part will be chosen between the bread pudding or the pies!
MoreHome-cooked vibe. Great, down-home comfort food.
Gr8 food and service every time!
I'm not from Houma, but love going to this place when I'm in town for work! Great spot for comfort food, and amazing Peanut Butter Pie!
MoreReal southern down home food in a checkered table cloth setting
Awesome! Great food, wonderful Cajun vibe! Cajun music makes you want to dance.
Delicious home cooked food with gumbo served every day! What's not to love!
I was expecting this to be off the charts delicious homemade food. It wasnβt that but it wasnβt bad. I did enjoy the desert though. I had the lemon pie. It was about 5 inches tall and very good.
MoreGood home style Cajun cooking. If you want to experience the taste of authentic gumbo and other dishes, you can't go wrong. Friday nights have local music to listen to while you eat .
MoreThe food is great here. White beans and fried shrimp are amazing!
When I'm in town, this is a must stop for me. You learn to appreciate places like this, when you don't have access to them on a regular basis. Everything is an experience. From the food, to the old shack that you eat it in.Edit: flying in to N.O. tomorrow, Sat, Nov 23rd for the Saints-Panthers. Better believe I will be at Abears Saturday afternoon.
MoreMonday they serve red beans and rice with sausage links and potato salad! Best in town! Tastes like my great grandma made it back in the day!
MoreGreat dining experience with the live Cajun music and family atmosphere. Friendly service
MoreGreat food!!
Excellent oysters. Fabulous music! Definitely a must see place. (Friday 5-9 pm music and dinner. Not open on weekends at all or other evenings. Lunch hours each weekday.)
MoreWonderful food, friendly staff, small but very efficient, Friday night's they have cajun music. The Catfish A-Bear is delicious!!
MoreFood was good, but the gumbo just didn't have enough of that kick I'm used to. Other than that, very polite people and good food.
MoreThe food was fantastic and the music made you tap your feet. Loved it all!! Thank y'all so much! π
MoreDecent dive for lunch, expect plate lunches and Cajun fare. Decent price.
Delicious! Home cooked cajun meal was great. Had shrimp and crab stew with potato salad.
MoreFriendly and tasty! The shrimp was especially well fried. The gumbo delicious.

The Chicken Fried Steak was awesome I really enjoyed it
Great Cajun food. As you can see with the menu a wide variety of seafood. Atmosphere is diffenately β down the bayou
MoreFried catfish is the best in town. Friday night live music and comedy was great.
All I had was the Chocolate peanut butter pie while my kids enjoyed the chicken nuggets! The pie itself is worth going back. The nuggets and fries we're pretty decent too.
MoreGreat food, awesome deserts.Great service!
While traveling over New Years, we just stopped for the night in Houma and wanted some home style Cajun food for lunch as we were leaving town. My family was so happy we found Abear's Cafe! The food was really good and the atmosphere was nice too. The owner and the staff made us feel like we were visiting family. They were super good to our 9 year old daughter and baby boy. Visiting this place made us wish we had an extra day to stay in Houma before leaving. If I am ever in the area again, this will be the place to go.I don't remember the name of the nice lady who waited on us, but thanks so much for being so nice with the kids and for the book you gave them.
MoreFood was delicious and home made portions were large and I would definitely try the desserts they are home made
MoreFood was delicious!! Great place for a home cooked
The hamburger steak is as tough as shoe leather and the chicken fried steak leaves a lot to be desired. Horrible food.
MoreDo you like Cajun music. Head there on a Friday night. Gumbo is the food head liner here also order dessert first. There home pies are the best.
MoreMy husband and I ate here a few weeks ago. We live about 30 miles from here and it was our first time eating at Abears. Delicious cajun food!! I had the white beans and rice, fried catfish and potato salad...so very good! My husband had the shrimp stew and rice and said it was awesome! Also they have really, really good bread pudding with rum sauce for dessert! If you are a tourist and want to try some awesome authentic Cajun food, this is the place to go...they are the real deal! If you from around here and want some home cooked food but donβt wanna cook it, Abears will satisfy your envie! Go visit Abears! Ca Cβest Bon!! ππ€©

Quaint Hundred-year-old building. Selling authentic down the bayou food
The best food in Houma! Comfort food like I grew up with. Great atmosphere and the service is top notch! They have plate lunches and serve awesome homemade dessert... I go by here whenever I'm in town or close by and it's always great.
